Mission:
Short Treks
Location: USS Enterprise: Deck 8: Primary Medical Complex: Recover Room 5
Timeline: 2439-08-13, 5:56 pm, 1756 hours
Mira was sitting up and brushing the fur on Tanitha, her barking spider, a gift from the CEO. Yes, the critter was 'just' a stuffed animal, but as a gift, Mira was treating it as nicely as her Tarthanian stuffy friend, Talitha, a gift from her Mother. She was feeling content as she had just earlier finished eating a lite meal comprised of beef vegetable soup with sour dough bread, and she loved it. She could not believe the Nurse apologized for the bland 'hospital' food. She had missed so many meals growing up so that any meal was very welcome.
Amber offered a smile as she approached Mira’s bedside, she wanted to drop by and see how Mira was feeling. “I hope you don’t mind me dropping by? I thought I’d see how you were doing.”
Pausing her brushing, Mira moved Tanitha to be beside her, then focused on the person coming by with their well wishes. She smiled warmly to Amber as she replied, "I don't mind at all, Counselor Laurell. *pause* And, I was kind of expecting it a little. I think I gave Doc Rio.. I mean, Doctor Kholin, some angst when I was talking about my youth and where the tungsten shotgun pellet embedded in my right Pelvic bone came from." She giggled a little, "That caught me by surprise too, as I wasn't expecting anything left over from Dad's training with us kids. I hope he lets me keep it."
Amber smiled. “Nothing wrong with having a souvenir, even if it is a shotgun pellet.” She paused. “Rio hasn’t said anything to me about your angst, as you put it, I just thought I’d drop in.”
Mira mmmhed in pleasure as a smile spread across her face. She replied, "I.. thank you. That is very nice of you."
Aidan had paused as soon as he saw the spider, but Sherlock gave him a soft whistle that seemed to suggest he was a coward, being afraid of something that wasn't real. Still the suggestion of the arachnid sent a shiver down his spine. As the mini dragon settled himself at the foot of the bed, the Trill approached the other side. "Counselor," he acknowledged the medical officer. "Are you feeling better?" He turned his attention to the recovering patient. "Last I saw you, you weren't in stellar condition."
Mira saw the mini dragon, gently raised a hand, then gently waved to the friendly little guy. She looked over to Aidan, nodded, then replied, "Yes, I am feeling better. Doc Kholin removed the shotgun pellet, repaired my right pelvic bone, rebuilt the muscle layers, and then regened my skin. Just no hair. Here, see?" Mira rolled onto her side and shifted the gown so that Amber and Aidan could see the repaired side, the muscles under the skin flexing, hair around where the blast had been, and.. well.. her lovely right derriere with tail coming from the base of her spine. Of course, at this angle and such, nothing intimate was seen. A swimsuit thong would also show the same. Mira followed up with, "Good as new. Hair will grow back later."
“Well it’s good that you’ve been healed had that you’re getting some rest” Amber smiled warmly also offering a smile to Aidan as well.
Aidan politely averted his gaze as the sheets were shifted. "Fur grows back," he agreed, "but there are ways to stimulate the follicles. You don't have to remain ah...unfurred."
Amber couldn’t help but smile at Aidan’s polite averted gaze. “Perhaps that would cause more in the way of discomfort especially after recent surgery?”
Mira was on her side as she looked over the muscles moving under her skin. She was smiling as she saw what she expected, the interplay of the layers dealing with jumping muscles, tail muscles, and the layers found in most humanoid species. She did not notice Adian's look away. Besides, with unified dormitories, she was used to being seen as well as seeing the opposite sex. It was natural to her. She replied, "Yeah, Amber is right.. stimulation can cause a bunch of ingrown hairs... better to let them grow naturally for a quarter of an inch, then field stimulate them. Or, just let them grow. I just won't wear midriff baring civvy clothing for now."
This was properly one of the busiest moments zh'Roothi had seen in sickbay for quite a while. Given the situations the Enterprise had found itself in since coming into the quadrant the general sense of time seemed framed by drama after drama therefore the XO couldn't actually put a finger on the last occasion. Fortunately, this bustle wasn't due to a chaotic scene of triage and frantic need to preserve life. Ensign Yumerieva had amassed several well wishers including Sherlock and a black hairy spider of which Zhora eyed wearily before concluding it was not hazardous. She held back as the others spoke to the young officer grateful they'd given up some time to see her.
Mira's ears twitched as her whiskers followed suit. She was being stared at by another. She sat up and shifted onto her knees, looking past Amber and Aidan. She smiled and said, "XO, you've come to visit. Please, come on in. Counselor Amber Laurell and Commander Aidan Datari are already visiting." She glanced at Sherlock, then to Tanitha, and continued, "Don't mind Sherlock and Tanitha.. Sherlock is living and saying hi to me, while Tanitha is unliving, but can 'bark' with the best of them." She grinned, resisting the urge to bring Tanitha into a hug to squeeze out a 'toot' for the XO.
“Please Commander” Amber motioned for Zhora to join them. “I’ll have to be getting back to my duties soon anyway so we won’t have to worry about overcrowding.”
"Thank you Counsellor," the Andorian nodded. "I promise not to stay long myself so Mira can rest."
Amber smiled as she moved back enough to allow room around the bed.
Mira remained on her side with the gown away from her thigh, hip, and side so the XO could see that she was fully healed. She spoke up, "I had a nap and some food just earlier, so I am good for a while." She nodded her head to her side, "And, see? Doc Kholin did a marvelous healing, I'm good as new."
The Trill shifted back too, to give the XO some room to approach, still refusing to examine the exposed healing patch.
"I'm relieved to see you're on the mend," Zhora addressed the young officer. "And have plenty of well wishers," she glanced around the space and tickled Sherlock's forehead in the process.
Mira shifted her gown back into place as she went back to sitting up on the bed. She crossed her legs before her to better interact with those around her. She blushed lightly as she replied, "Yah, I wasn't expecting any, tah be honest, XO, but it's a nice surprise, tah be sure."
The mini dragon crooned in delight, moving into the touch to demand more attention from the Andorian woman. Aidan chuckled at his companion's bold demand. "Keep that up and he may continue to make demands," he smiled.
"I think he deserves some praise after today," Zhora smirked at Sherlock's antics and fussed his crown a little longer before giving Mira her full attention.
"I came to express my appreciation for your bravery today," the XO continued. "We faced some rather stacked odds on the station, and things could have very easily swung in another direction if you hadn't been so steadfast."
Mira blush deepened. Zhora had caught her totally off guard with her words. She worked on trying to say something, finally coming out with, "Thank you very much, Sir. I did what I could to help the others on the team." She glanced down at her side, then back up, "I'm happy my phaser caught the disrupter bolt instead of me, I think I had just ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time when snaring the Klingon General." She realized she had went into explanation mode, then stilled herself by finishing with, "Thank you, Sir."
"Maybe you were, or maybe you were exactly where you supposed to be," the Andorian shrugged. "None the less you I'll be speaking to the Commodore regarding your heroism and forward your name for an accolade."
Mira's blush managed to get even deeper as she almost said, 'No, please, not necessary' as attention brought death... but this wasn't her home world, it was a Federation Starship, she had escaped. It was time to escape her way of thinking when there were no danger signs. She managed a, "Thank you sir."
"Sherlock is always vying for praise, he craves it," Aidan grinned, "I'm just glad he's getting some room to feel useful. We've had different experiences on prior assignments. He just wants to help."
The blue seemed to hum in agreement, proudly preening his glistening blue scales before running a careful claw over Mira's fur, uttering a querying chirp. "He wants to know why you have such odd scales," Aidan laughed, his own eyes echoing the spark in the dragon's blue/green whirling eyes. They were a stark contrast to the red and white speckled mix of danger when they'd been on the station.
Mira quirked her head, then managed to murf out a chortling, "Because furr, not scales." She managed to finish with, "Rather, special hair, as in my body has sweat pores and not dense fur requiring panting... but individual growing outward strands comprised of Keratin Protein mixed in with detritus from the skin, where as scales are hardened plates laying with the skin comprised of... same thing. Scales are protection, Hair is for heat regulation and contaminant protection. So, just a difference in how the Creator designed our lives."
Amber smiled as she stepped forward a little. “I have to be getting back, but if there’s anything you need please let me know.”
Mira nodded and started to speak when a large yawn interrupted her. Sherlock could now see the omnivore teeth patterning, except with Mira's front teeth and bottom teeth the same length as her canines, the bottom fit behind the top to create a comfortable resting closed mouth. She blushed again, "Umm, Thanks Counselor. I sure will." She looked at the others, "Sorry everyone, I think my body is desiring some more rest. Thank you so much for coming by to visit."
Sherlock chirped happily, baring his fangs in return, then curled up at the foot of the bed. Aidan shrugged. "Looks like he wants to stay and keep watch, do you mind? He'll zip his way home eventually."
Mira giggled at seeing Sherlock mimicking her 'yawn' with a teeth display of his own. She nodded with a happy grin at Aidan's words. "I would love his company and protection, Commander Datari. It is very welcoming." She snuggled more into the biobed, her body already succumbing to the Sandman's gentle beckoning. She fell asleep, her body demanding more of her time into her dreams to continue healing from her ordeal.
End.
