862 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Short Treks
Location: U.S.S. Enterprise
Timeline: 2439-03-09, 07:30

Lex was beamed directly to sickbay. She was, in a definition, messed up. Eyes had blood in them, nosebleed, brain hemorrhaging, and a broken hand after she slammed her tricorder on her hand to get that thing out of her mind. Also, she had quite a few things happening inside her.

"Doctor, think you can patch me up? I've had a headache after a horrible day at work, and it isn't even a f**#ing Monday." Lex noted.

Having been working from the workstation in the corner of the Sickbay, Doctor Stefaniya Losenko rolled the equipment tray with her as she walked over to the biobed. The Chief Medical Officer had been called to the Deck One Infirmary to help with the Captain, so she was left in charge for the time being. Pressing a control, she activated the diagnostic clamshell on the biobed, the twin scanners rising upward and covering the Science Officer's midsection.

The comlink opened from Sickbay. Lex responded on the signal. "Captain, listen carefully. No one must return to this system. Some of them are under the impression that we are a threat. And they have telepathy beyond my people. They're letting us go because we are not worth their time. But they were in the process of altering my thoughts, and they can do it to anyone. I was just the easiest for them to establish a telepathic link to. But the link worked both ways. They are pondering ways to have us fight ourselves. We must leave now, and never return, as they are not as innocent as they appear."

"I wonder if they're the reason this gas giant hasn't collapsed into a red dwarf?" Ash's musings could be heard.

"They're not to be trusted. The one that took control of me had no qualms about keeping me, so to speak. And it was very interested in what I could do with me. pushing my distaste for the Dominion to the surface." Lex mentioned. "They're quite capable of eventually seizing control of any of our minds and then sitting back and watching as we destroy each other with their version of buffalo wings, and a cold beer. I have a feeling they could have doused the Metreon Cascade and our ultrasonic signal at any time." Lex mentioned.

"Lieutenant," the doctor warned, "you need to try to keep calm. Your blood pressure is off the scale."

Following Toryn's explanation over the comm zh'Roothi wanted to learn more without speaking about the topic so openly and arrived in sickbay to speak to her. The timing could have been better with the Captain also receiving treatment however she needed to understand the threat and access the potential repercussions. Kuzos and his vessel had remained peaceful as the Enterprise headed toward the Wormhole.

"Commander..." Toryn turned having seen the XO. "I think that thing was making me... Erratic. The link worked both ways." She noted. "It was studying me, experimenting with my reactions.. My darkest thoughts... Right down to my core when we were in the brown dwarf. But it worked both ways. And I'm going to say this for the report. "It does not want us anywhere near that system, and there are a lot of them in that brown dwarf." She breathed as the doctor worked on her hand.

"I'd make sure that you report that to either the Chief or the Counselor when they're available," the Lieutenant explained as she used the osteoregenerator to repair the injuries to the Science Officer's hand. "Try not to move around much though. The diagnostic scans are trying to find the extent of your injuries."

Standing close by but not to obstruct Losenko Commander zh'Roothi glanced casually at the monitor over Toryn's bed. She'd certainly done a number to herself forcing the entity from her body. If it had been affecting her before actually taking over her body completely Zhora pondered if she'd been too hard on the Lieutenant before. She shook away the thought for now, they'd be time for reflection later in her mission debriefing report.

"Easy Lexi," the Commander hushed her wishing to calm the woman before her condition worsened. "I have no intention to head back to the system, long range scans also show Kuzos has also remained true to his word and has left."

[Toryn]

"Commander," Losenko looked at the XO, "I'm going to have to ask you to leave for the time being. The Lieutenant needs to rest after her ordeal. She'll be able to meet with you later after she's rested up."

zh'Roothi gaze shifted between the two as she weighed up her options. Normally she'd have the final say in all situations but not in Sickbay as Losenko was ready to point out with a level of politeness for now. He'd quickly ramp it if up if the Andorian dug in she suspected.

Truthfully with Targaryen temporary incapacitated her place was on the bridge not here trying to coax information from an injured woman especially if the ship was under threat.

"Fine," she relented with a hint of frustration at herself for being drawn here. "Keep me appraised."

"Yes Ma'am," the Doctor answered.
