Mission: Gaia
Location: Sickbay, U.S.S. Enterprise

Sitting at the triage station inside the Enterprise's Emergency Department, Crewman Tiazal Jiru had just received the notification from the main computer about the happenings on the Main Bridge. So far they had been lucky with everything that had been going on not to have many patients come in, but it sounded like the Bridge hadn't been as lucky. The young nurse was surprised they didn't take the patient to the Infirmary adjacent to the Bridge, but she also knew it wasn't her place to question the will of their Captain.

As she was preparing the equipment tray, Tiazal heard the announcement.

"Incoming Transport."

Seconds later the transporter beams appeared in the surgical chamber of the Emergency Department. Lieutenant Urvasi Elandorn was beamed directly onto the biobed itself while Doctor Rio Kholin was beamed standing next to the diagnostic bed. The nurse walked up to the workstation, typing on the display as she awaited orders.

Urvasi appeared in the biobed on her back while completing what she started to say on the bridge in a deep gravely voice, "...rrier and we are away from the Time Bubbles." Her arms and legs were still locked into their positions from where she was sitting at the helm while her tail was still straight out from the base of her spine down along the biobed. She realized the helm controls were no longer in front of her and her mind at first fixated on that. "No.. helm.. helm... where's the helm?"

"You're in Sickbay Lieutenant, you're undergoing treatment. We're going to get you healed." Rio said, gently and with a soft, calm voice in the hopes of trying to ease some of the pressure that Urvasi was clearly still under.

Muscles here and there across Urvasi's body began to quiver then still as she said, "Ash.. Ash.. she has Psi... she can do it...", and then Urvasi focused on shutting down her Psi senses, which were still very active and tracking what was happening out in space. She backed out... backed out?... and it was very hard to stop. "Uhhhh, give me a few moments... been focused too long on Barrier... hard to shut down..." She suddenly reached into her pocket and brought out the hypo and stabbed it into her still in a sitting position leg. The analgesic began to flow along her nerves, and there.. the focus began loosening, and she was out. The grimace went away on her face, her muscles relaxed, and she pretty much flopped down into the biobed. Muscles began shaking all over as the long held tension was finally released. Small knots appeared here and there as in a small voice Urvasi was saying, "ow.. ow.. ow.. ow.. ow.." before falling into a light doze as her body worked on a quick recovery. Her body was needing to get electrolytes and minerals back into her nerves, blood, and muscles. The main thing Urvasi was thinking about was to recover quickly so she could return to the bridge and take over from Ash.

Rio and the team worked hard programming the Bio Arch on the Bio Bed and it rose above the patient, monitoring and administrating any medication the CMO authorised it to. At the moment the regeneration that she and Sol and Hughes had been doing on the Bridge manually was transferred into the biobed and it's raised bridge over the head of Urvasi was taking on these tasks as it was there to facilitate.

All basics, such as electolytes and essentials were already on the program but Rio still checked them off, just to be sure. Watching as the scans and work progressed within the state of the art machinery were performed and reported almost simultaneously and with an accuracy that was almost mind boggling if you weren't a trained, experienced and already used to this kind of speedy and essential wizardry as standard, in the way that Kholin was.

Suddenly, the Collision Alarm sounded in Medical. This woke Urvasi from her doze as she realized what was going to happen. She closed her eyes and waited with her muzzle hard shut. Then she winced as she turned her head to the side and right at that time the ship began to shake and rattle as though caught in a maelstrom. Urvasi, even though not having her psi active, still hard felt the activity directly about the ship. She whispered, "The ship has entered the barrier... wait, I can do this... " As needing to fully open herself to feel the edge of the barrier, she could now keep her senses closed enough to not be blinded and look for any large time anomaly bubbles coming near the ship. Her face relaxed as she remembered that Ash had psi and she could send directions.

Rio tried to soothe her patient as she had just awoken in agitation again but it was clear that Urvasi wasn't speaking to those in the room, so much as more to those still on the Bridge. It was confusing but Rio was accustomed to the mysteries of psi and knew better than to try to work out what was happening to her, within her and within whatever link she had formed.

Urvasi opened her eyes and saw Rio. "Hey Doc Rio, Ash can track the the time anomalies as well and she is flying the ship in my place, I can give my psi a rest." She yiffered gently, then added, "Even though I am not actively using my psi sense, the interaction of the Enterprise with the Barrier is still making a bright spotlight I cannot block out. But, it is nothing like before in opening my psi sense fully to try and see the twilight of the barrier edge with the noon sun of the Defiant behind it. That.. is the best I can describe what I was seeing and why I was so tensed on the bridge. Sorry for not being stronger."

Amber had arrived back in Sickbay, overhearing what Urvasi was saying she was curious to say the least. “There’s nothing to be sorry for, as much as I’m curious about what you sense and see questions can wait, right now getting you healed is what’s important.” She offered a warm smile. “As much as I have telepathic and empathic senses, I never saw anything from the barrier, I kind of felt it but in a different way.”

Urvasi smiled warmly to Amber with her ears up and cupped towards her as well as her whiskers out and at a 45 degree angle down from horizontal with her face. She returned her gaze to Rio as she said, "Hey Doc, I am feeling much better, what ever the biobed is doing it is doing marvelous."

"It's one of my best toys!" Rio grinned back encouragingly.

Urvasi returned her attention to Amber. "Well, on my Psi sense, it is a very rare talent in that I can sense hyperspatial and gravity energies, and warp energies affected with in either type of energy. So, when the Enterprise began pushing the Defiant through the Quantum Barrier, the energy interactions between the Barrier and Defiant were causing huge amounts of hyperspatial energies of the type that forms into Temporal rifting. It was like using a telescope to view a star without filtering. However, I was also having to sense out the quantum barrier through that blinding light and pain of being so bright... like tracking a cityline right in front of that star." She sighed, then continued, "It is a rare ability that supposedly would be of little use, but, I was able to do my piloting and tracking until my body began running out of energy." She frowned for a second, then added, "Oh, umm, psi abilities use energy just like the body, so my brain was using energy equivalent to a heavy power lifter lifting their max continuously while I was doing that. Does that help?"

“Sounds fascinating to me” Amber nodded. “It’s certainly an amazing talent to have, but it appears to be a risky one as well seeing what’s happened to you.”

"I'll second that!" Rio added. "It left you in a bad way!" she agreed with the Counsellor.

Urvasi yiffered in humor. "Well, this is only the third time I have been in a situation where this particular aspect of my psi sense has been useful. Also, right now, I am tracking the Defiant, Enterprise, and a temporal anomaly nearby, but if you notice, I am doing fine. It was only because of needing to track the barrier edge that I had to fully open myself, which is the same as putting a telescope meant for capturing night time stars pointing at the main sun and opening it full blast and then trying to track a very small star right by the sun. Opening myself fully and trying to track that little, itty bitty tiny spec is what took my full concentration... I would rather not have to do that again, if you don't mind."

"Nor I, to have to try to repair any repeat attempts, thank you!" Kholin agreed again.

Urvasi mused as she began fully feeling herself from the biobed getting her body back to equilibrium. "You know, before, in my testing, then two two times before, to feel the hyperspatial energies, I had to fully open up my psi clairvoyance to see the small energies. So, in order to use my ability, I thought I had to fully open myself.. but, right now, I am tracking what is happening outside the ship thanks to how powerful those energies are, despite not actively using my psi sense. I guess... I never thought of that on the holodeck as before I always had to be active. So, Doc Rio, Counselor Amber, can I get back to the bridge?" She suddenly looked confused, then yiffered. "Shields lowered, Ship getting through Barrier, and Temporal Anomaly collapsing.. we are going to make it. Thank you, Ash."

“That’s good to know” Amber smiled warmly. “As for opening yourself up, that’s a very dangerous thing to do. My abilities differ a lot to yours but I have to exercise caution in opening myself up, or I end up completely overwhelmed.”

Urvasi yiffered, then stopped and frowned. "The Temporal anomaly is surging to get to the ship, it will be upon us shortly... and we are through the Barrier, and gone. I am no longer sensing anything.... we must have went to warp to get away."

Urvasi snorted in light humor as she continued, "Counselor Amber, to what you were saying earlier, that was what was happening to me. Just, I have never faced such magnitudes of power that this Quantum Barrier created. Previous encounters required me to open up fully just to detect the slight changes in Hyperspatial, Warp, and Gravity that I have detected in the past. Now, though... I really think I need to do more simulations in testing my psi senses. What I have encountered today, is really a first."

Urvasi looked over at Rio. "So, Doc Rio, I am feeling back to normal. Does the bio-bed show I am ready to return to my duties at the helm and take over from Ash?"

Rio shook her head slowly, genuinely sorry to be the cautious reason to say no as it was clear that Urvasi was desperate to resume her duties - which was of course understandable as the whole situation was still in play up on the Bridge - but........

"You've been very badly hurt Lieutenant Elandorn" Rio reverted back to the formal to deliver bad news. "Your body and more importantly your mind and emotions have all been pushed to and beyond their healthy limits - you were bleeding internally - that has to tell you how close to physical collapse you were!" she explained the seriousness of the damage already done.

Urvasi's body stilled even as her ears and whiskers moved forward in surprise. Her mouth opened, then closed as she really had no reply upon hearing her injuries.

"I have done what I can with regeneration and I can see that you're recovering well but it would be above my pay-grade, not to mention beyond my moral duty and judgement, to let you take more risks before you're very much more recovered than you are right now. I am really sorry. The Bio-bed can say what it likes, because I'm the one who's risking having it on my conscience if we have to bury you in space because I let you do more harm now which could result in worse effects than last time."

Urvasi's ears laid down to be down at 45 degrees and over the sides of her face while her ears move back to be down and along her muzzle. She replied, "I am properly chastised and you have my utmost apologies for not knowing the extent of my injuries, Doctor Kholin, Lieutenant Laurell."

Urvasi's ears went back to normal as she touched her communicator. =/\= Lieutenant 1001, Lieutenant Urvasi, I am indisposed in Medical at this time. Will you please take the helm on the Bridge?=/\=

The Bynar quickly answered, "Understood."

Urvasi returned her attention to Rio and Amber. Her head bowed lightly as she continued, "I will gladly abide by whatever your orders are, truly. I am ready."

Amber looked towards Urvasi. “In my opinion you need to rest, using psi abilities is stressful to say the least. In the long run it’s the Doctor’s decision” she looked towards Rio.

Rio nodded. "I have done what I can by way of intervention and physical regeneration, I concur that Rest is the most important and helpful course for going forward now." she smiled kindly at Urvasi. "You gave it 150% Lieutenant, you deserve to rest on your laurels for a while, the success of what you managed to do will soon show itself, I'm sure."

Urvasi nodded to the two. Her tail moved gently between her feet as she was thankful that Amber and Rio understood how draining Psi abilities were. They used energy, just like any other activity of the body. She had just done a 'Strongman Marathon' upon her body by her psi abilities. If it wasn't for the Bio-Bed having quickly returned her to proper electrolytes and minerals balances, she would be probably knotted up and in pain. She settled into the Bio-Bed for the treatment to complete itself. She stated, "Whenever treatment completed, I will return to my quarters for some rest. How long for the rest? Return to duty normal shift tomorrow morning? Longer rest?"

“I’ll let the doctor answer that one” Amber smiled warmly as she looked towards Rio.

"24hrs minimum and then you can go back on reduced hours and light duties for another 24. After that, a quick scan here in Sickbay, to see if all has healed well enough, then you can be signed back onto the duty roster. That sound do-able?" Rio said. It was a rhetorical question because the CMO wasn't offering any alternatives and she turned to tap notes into the bio-bed arch controls and the computer data, recording the events of this.
