Mission:
Short Treks
Location: USS Enterprise
Timeline: 2430-10-01, 07:00
Lieutenant Commander Rrawran adjusted his communicator as he stood outside the door to the Chief of Security's Office aboard the Enterprise. It hadn't been long since they had received their new mission orders and Rrawran had been notified that, upon the Enterprise's arrival at Deep Space 12, he would be reassigned as Chief Security/Tactical Officer of the Enterprise with Lieutenant Commander O'Sullivan assuming the role of DS12's Security Chief. Even though they would still be working together frequently, he knew that it wouldn't be an easy transition for any of them.
The newly appointed Lieutenant Commander let out his species' closest approximation of a sigh as he reached for the door chime. He had known Commander O'Sullivan for over three years and had hated how things had happened. It wasn't easy being reassigned from the flagship and he hoped that the Commander didn't feel differently toward him.
Patton had been working on some reports for hours. He had just gotten a fresh cup of coffee when he hard the familiar chime of his door. He frowned for a moment as he wasn’t expecting anyone but knew the sooner he gave permission the sooner he would know.
“Come in.” He called out. Patton smiled when he saw it was Rrawran who came through his doorway. “Have a seat.” He called out, his voice friendly and inviting.
The alien officer smiled, graciously, "Thank you, Commander." He noticed the scattering of PADDs and other files open on the computers, "Paperwork never seems to end does it?"
"No it doesn't." Patton agreed with a nod. "But it comes with the territory." He moved somethings out of the way. "I used to dread it but I've come to terms with it being a part of my job and I don't seem to put it off so much anymore." He wondered what Rrawran wanted but he knew he would get to it sooner or later. Patience was something that Patton had learned over time as well.
Rrawran nodded in response, knowing full well that beating around the bush wasn't always the best policy someone could explore. Plus, they were soldiers so it really wasn't probably the best tactic here today. "With the Admiral being assigned to oversee this new Project I have a feeling that the paperwork we've seen before is only the tip of the iceberg. I received my new orders this morning."
“Oh?” Patton said looking directly at him. He couldn’t exactly figure out what it was but he had a bad feeling that he wasn’t going to like what he had to say. “Give it to me straight.” Patton said evenly. “What have they done now?” He was so tired of their games.
"I received notification that I'm being reassigned as Security Chief here on the Enterprise," he said getting right to the point. "From what I hear through the Starfleet grapevine the entire Senior Staff are being reassigned."
Patton's eyes widened and he sat back. Of all the news he expected to hear, that was not it. "Again?" He shook his head. "I know that transfers come with the territory but I had finally thought I found a home here." His mind went to Zoey as well. She was his 'one'. Where would she be headed and for that matter, where was he going? "I am happy for you." Patton said, and he was being genuine. Rrawran would be an excellent replacement. "It feels like a punch in the gut, you know."
Rrawran nodded, "Starfleet's changing a lot about our mission from the sounds of it. I haven't been given much information, but apparently the Enterprise is getting reassigned as the support vessel for Deep Space 12. I know that the President had decided to establish a secondary command center for the Federation, a fall back position, but I didn't expect all of this." He paused as he sat in the guest chair, his ears low toward his head in a supplicative manner, "I wonder when you'll receive your new orders?"
“Hard to tell.” Patton sighed. “I appreciate you letting me know. This way I am not blindsided.” He smiled then. “And who knows it might be a really good fit.” He thought he had a great relationship with the command staff but here they were shipping him off again. He would handle it better if he knew Zoey was going to the same place. “I will have to play their wait and see game.”
"Targaryen to Rrawran."
They both shared a knowing look as the alien answered, "Yes Sir?"
"Meet me in the Ready Room, Commander. We need to discuss the latest tactical reports for the Sector."
"Aye," Rrawran answered with a nod. He looked at his friend, "Sorry, Sir, but duty calls."
