Mission:
Atlantis
Location: Bridge, Starfleet One
Timeline: 2429-12-02, 13:35
Galatea stood at her workstation on the Bridge of Starfleet One carefully monitoring the readouts that they were receiving from the alien vessel. The Away Team hadn't been aboard the ship for long, but it was long enough that her security subroutines were starting to kick in and she wasn't a happy camper. It was hard for her so she knew it had to be hard for their Strategic Operations Officer due to his relationship with the Science Officer.
"Could this have come from the mirror universe?" Bishop questioned the science chief.
Galatea's ears perked up on that one. She listed carefully.
"That what sir?" Jasmine asked. What was the mirror universe? Jasmine wondered what this was, and why he thought this technology could be from that universe.
Galatea listened to the conversation and discussion, keenly aware of what was being discussed. She was about to interject when she overheard Commander Green's response.
"No, that wasn't what I was referring to." Green shook her head. "I was referring to Hodgkin's Law of Parallel Planetary Development, a biological theory first postulated by A.E. Hodgkin..."
Galatea tuned back out and returned to her monitors, hoping that not many had heard the discussion. While the theory of parallel universes had existed in most culture's scientific pantheons, very few had confirmation of the existence of one. Officially Starfleet did have a regulation restricting access to information on the parallel universe known as the Mirror Universe; however, Starfleet had lessened its restrictions on information regarding the alternate universe. It was still officially classified, but was becoming a bit more commonplace.
She was pulled back to reality with a new voice. Galatea spoke up, "Commander, be advised that the Away Team has come into contact with the crew of the alien vessel."
"Thank you for the update Galatea," Hawkins answered having been monitoring the away team's progress nervously. He needn't worry, Bishop would keep Green safe and Haynes too hard already proven herself perfectly capable, but still it was hard not being there himself
"We are receiving a hail from the Away Team," she added.
"Bishop to Starfleet One. Send Dr. Porter over we have made contact with the Atlantean Exploration Force, and they have some injuries among their number."
"Affirmative," The Commander acknowledged before turning to Porter whom was lingering on the bridge. "Do what you can for them, Doctor."
"I'm on my way as we speak, Commander," he replied already half-way out the door.
Intrigued by Bishop's hail Hawkins crossed over to the relief Op's officer Lieutenant Baker: "Search the data base, for the Atlantean Exploration Force Bishop and the others have found."
"Yes sir," she nodded. "I'd already run checks on the ship and nothing matched. Already my search is bringing back nothing concrete just myths and stores on the Lost City."
Nathan nodded half expecting that. "Keep trying."
The Hologram rounded the upper level and joined the new members of the crew, "I did not have a chance to formally introduce myself. I am Galatea, the Artificial Intelligence of this vessel."
“Lieutenant Commander O’Sullivan,” Patton introduced himself. He almost said it was nice to meet you but was that what one said. He decided to go for it. “Glad to make your acquaintance.”
"And I you, Commander," the representative of Starfleet One's Artificial Intelligence answered as she looked to the Commander of the Air Wing.
"Cmdr. T'Lisha "Hawkeye" Bishara, it is a pleasure to meet you Galatea", T'Lisha said, looking at her curiously.
Being as blunt as ever, Galatea continued, "I regret that you have been assigned here. A few years ago this vessel was different. Then I was a warship, and warships only know how to do one thing, and that's kill. I didn't have a hearts, I didn't have empathy. I was a killers, and attack dogs, and now I'm afraid I'm a diplomat."
“But That is an honor,” Patton replied. “It is much harder to negotiate and preserve life. Someone realized your true potential.” He almost laughed at himself, trying to make the AI feel better.
The AI considered for a moment then continued, "Thank you for your candor, Commander." She turned and looked at the alien vessel on the viewscreen. "I just hope that the diplomat inside of me is wrong about my gut feeling."
"Gut feeling Galatea, I did not know AI's had feelings at all", T'Lisha said chuckling.
"We do, Commander," she answered. "It may not be a gut feeling like you may have, but I do have them. This one indicates nothing good." She tugged on her uniform tunic, "In any eventuality I am certain of the abilities of this vessel and its crew to secure a scene."
"Thank you for the vote of confidence Galatea," Hawkins commented en-route back to the centre seat. "You're insightful as ever."
“We won’t let you down, G,” Patton added. He liked the AI.
The Hologram smiled, "Good. Just a heads up the Admiral's in the turbolift on his way here."
“Thanks for the warning,” he grinned at Galatea. “You are solid, G.”
"Yes she is correct. The Admiral is coming", T'Lisha said.
Patton was busy at his station when Teagarden arrived. He listened for what was to come.
She wasn't wrong. A moment later the turbolift door slid open and the Admiral stepped into the Bridge. Having left the Ambassadors he was eager to find out what was going on with the away team. "Report."
"I have sent Doctor Porter in addition to the away team," Hawkins responded to Teagarden's request. "The crew of the stricken ship have a number of injuries they've identified themselves as the Atlantean Exploration Force."
"The Atlantean Exploration Force?" The Admiral questioned with a raised eyebrow. "That's certainly a new one on me." He walked toward the centre seat, "Any luck tracking down where they came from?"
"And us," Nathan stood relieved. "So far our attempts haven't uncovered any leads."
He looked at their Helmsman, "Hawkeye see what you can do to work with the Commander."
"With Doctor Porter over on the Atlantean vessel we need to prepare for their arrival. "Commander," he turned toward Mister O'Sullivan, "I would like some of your Hazard Team members in Sickbay while they are aboard and escorting our guests. They are not prisoners by any means, but I want to keep an eye on them."
“Yes Sir!” Patton replied. He pressed his comm and ordered a team to escort their guests, giving them strict orders that they were not to leave them at all.
"The survivors are being beamed aboard now," Galatea reported from her workstation. "Their Mission Commander is still aboard the alien vessel with the Away Team."
Teagarden nodded, "Sherwin must have cleared them to come aboard then. Patton, let's go meet our guests."
Patton headed over beside the Admiral. “I’m ready, Admiral. His team was in route, they knew he would not stand for anything less than they follow orders.
"Commander, bring the alien vessel aboard. I want you, Commander Bishara, Lorina, and Galatea to investigate the craft."
"Yes, Admiral." Hawkins acknowledged engaging the tractor beam. "Bringing the vessel aboard now."
"Understood sir", T'Lisha said getting up and allowing her junior officer to take over her duties.
With a smile he headed toward the Turbolift, "Lieutenant Yavan you have the Bridge while we're gone."
"Aye Admiral," the young Angosian woman said from one up the side workstations as she walked toward the Flight Control workstation.
William stepped inside the turbolift and waited for the others.
Patton walked on the turbolift and stayed to the front where he would have a visual when they reached their destination.
"Don't worry, Commander," the Admiral interrupted the silence as they waited on the others. "I'm sure that we'll have plenty of excitement coming up on this mission."
"Vessel is secure," Hawkins confirmed as he entered the car
"Very good Commander", T'Lisha said as she stepped into the lift with the others.
"That's usually my line. Sickbay then Shuttlebay," The CO of the ship smiled as the lift started its descent.
