Patton has spent the afternoon straightening his office, though he was mentally preparing himself for his meeting with Commander Hawkins. Like every post, there were going to be those who were all business and those who were somewhat laid back. Patton was a mixture of the two. He wondered what the second officer would be like.
Shaking his head he smiled to himself thinking the only way to find out was to head to his meeting. He would be a few minutes early but Patton hated being late for anything. He headed on his way to Hawkins office, buzzing to let him know he was there.
Inside the Commander drew his gaze away from the small window toward the door that announced the arrival of this guest. Bishop had been kind in ensuring Nathan had window in his office unlike some of the others, but the it was still a glorified broom cupboard hardly a space to hold a meet and greet let alone a sizeable briefing. It was embarrassing considering the luxury he'd been privileged to enjoy a few months previous.
He sighed resolved that those days won't be coming back for any time soon: "Come in," he called.
Patton walked in and came to attention. “Lieutenant Commander O’Sullivan reporting.” He stood waiting for Commander Hawkins to speak.
"At ease," Nathan turned to give the new arrival his full attention. "Welcome aboard Commander. Any objections if we take this elsewhere? I'm not overly fond on this cramped office?"
“I am good with that, Sir,” Patton agreed with him. It was a might close in here.
Hawkins was already on the move: "Good. I trust you've already had the provisional tour?"
“Actually,” Patton replied. “I met the Admiral and he sent me here so that would be a no but I’ll get there, Sir.”
Hawkins nodded leading them both along one of the many ship corridors a little annoyed Teagarden had sent him the new recruit to induct. Still, at least the new Commander was having something - he was just thrown in at the deep end. "I see from your service record you've been primarily stationed statically on Starbase's, does that bring you very much variety and challenges?" Hawkins asked politely.
“In some ways it is more demanding,” Patton replied. Between the crew and civilian issues and then there are constant visitors, some with nefarious reasons for being there.” He paused. “But I was ready for the change, I have been drawn to serving on a ship for a while.”
The former Captain glanced sideways at new recruit: "Things move quickly on board especially when dignitary our present. Considering the hostel feelings toward the Federation and the President we cannot tolerate or accept complacency, I hope you extend that policy to the Hazard Team."
“Definitely Commander,” Patton replied with a nod. “I grew up in the marines on a starship so I have some knowledge of chaos breaking out. My people will be ready at all times.”
"Good," Nathan nodded. "You're be expected to liaise with Commander Haynes and myself but also I'd like you to show initiative, you comfortable with that?"
“Yes Sir,” O’Sullivan replied with a nod.
"I'd been surprised if you disagreed," Hawkins smirked. He keyed the turbo car: "We should head to the bridge, we should be nearing our destination of distress signal. Before we do, have you any questions?"
“I am good, Commander,” Patton said firmly. He was as ready as Hawkins to be on the bridge.
