Mission: Atlantis
Location: Ready Room, Starfleet One
Timeline: 2429-12-02, 10:00

Admiral William Teagarden shifted the photo of he, his wife, and children on his desk. It had only been a short while since he'd returned to the ship following his temporary assignment as Federation Ambassador to the Klingon Empire and it hadn't been long for him to realize he'd hated almost everything that Greg Coulson had done in his absence. Greg may have spent a lot of time aboard the ship, having had previously served upon it, but he certainly had made some changes that William didn't appreciate. One of which was he'd changed the furniture in the Ready Room.

William sighed and just decided to set this project aside for now. Starfleet had accepted his petition to relinquish command of the 16th Fleet permanently to Greg Coulson in exchange for his appointment back to Starfleet One. That meant that he'd have a lot more time to himself than before and wouldn't be so bogged down by the minutiae. Greg was going to be responsible for the fleet from his new posting on Gateway Station.

In what felt like a lifetime he got to focus on just one ship again and it was his baby. He couldn't be happier!

The Admiral brought up his schedule and double checked his appointments for this morning. With the unfortunate passing of Commander H'wii he had to select a new Chief. There were several candidates but he'd narrowed it down to one that he really liked. He only hoped that she was still available as Greg had considered her for a new posting on 419.

He'd asked for her to join him in the Ready Room. He waited, further adjusting the photos, hoping she would arrive soon.

Lorina pressed the chime to enter the Admiral's ready room

William looked away from the photos on his desk and at the crimson door, "It's open."

Upon receiving the admiral's response, she walked into the ready room.

"Thank you, Sir."

"Hello Commander Lorina," the Admiral greeted politely. "Thank you for joining me on such short notice. I know that you were scheduled to be transported from New Vulcan with us to your next assignment and I appreciate your time."

Lorina listened as the admiral outlined his plans.

William got right to it, "I lost my Chief Engineer during the last mission. I would like for you to join us in that role."

Lorina gasped, taken aback, she knew, as a Starfleet officer, postings were never set in stone and things could be changed at a moment's notice, but CEO was an engineer's dream

She composed herself before replying

"I'd be honoured to be part of your crew, " she paused for a single beat before continuing, "I am happy to accept, thank you very much, sir."

"Excellent," he answered as he glanced at the photo of his wife and children - debating again if he liked its placement silently. He grabbed the PADD next to it and handed it over to his new Chief Engineer, "This is the ship's technical specifications including a bit more detail than we make public about this ship and its history. Our greatest advantage is our Coaxial Warp Drive and we're one of the few ships in the galaxy so equipped. Are you familiar with the Coaxial Drive, Commander?"

Lorina paused, thinking, "I've certainly heard of the theory, apart from Voyager, no-one really looked into it. From what I recall, Voyager experimented with it and then put the prototype into storage" she paused again, musing, "I'll have to do some research, is there a coaxial drive on board this ship?"

"There is," the Admiral answered with a smile. "Head to Engineering. There are some new toys you're going to want to play with. I'll meet you there soon. Dismissed, Chief, and welcome aboard."
