"Admiral on the Bridge," Rear Admiral Gregory Coulson said as Admiral William Teagarden stepped through the starboard door to the Bridge. Having vacated the center seat he walked toward the newcomer with a smile on his lips, "Welcome home, Will."
William looked around the Bridge of the ship carefully, seeing that the room was largely filled with the Alpha Watch personnel instead of the Senior Staff. It was not a large concern for him. The morning had been a very sad event for many and he didn't hold it against them. He replied simply, "Thank you, Greg."
Greg turned and looked at the Bridge, "It's pretty much exactly like you left it - but I did change a few things around while you were gone. Hope you don't mind too much. I know how particular you are about this ship."
"More than you will ever know," Teagarden answered with a smile. "What's our status?"
Greg motioned toward their Helmsman, "Miss Yavan."
"On course back to Earth at Coaxial Factor 1," the young lady answered. "We should make it back to Earth in a little over an hour or so."
"Understood," William answered.
Coulson motioned toward the Ops Officer, "Mister Janek has something more interesting for you."
"Oh?" Teagarden questioned.
The Ops Officer turned away from his station, "We picked up a call of unknown origin, Sir. We believe it to be a distress call, but we aren't certain. We're the only ship in range."
"And we aren't focusing on it?" William was a bit surprised. "Is there another ship in range?"
"No," Coulson answered. "I ordered us to return to Earth due to the President's requirement. He's insisted that we return him and his party to Earth. With the risk of the nature of the call I felt it was best for the safety of the President."
Teagarden smirked, "Your thoughts on that, Lieutenant Rrawran?"
The Rorwoor turned in his chair, "I must concur with Admiral Coulson's decision, Admiral."
Greg had a momentary flash of a smile as his last act was affirmed by his staff.
"Well then I agree too," Teagarden answered his former Strategist. "Though it's time, Greg."
"Computer transfer all command codes to Admiral William Teagarden. Voice authorization: Coulson 17 Pi 0 Sigma 1 Alpha.
Teagarden laughed at the code that Coulson had entered as Galatea's voice filled the speakers, "Transfer complete. USS Enterprise now under command of Admiral William Teagarden."
"I relieve you, Sir," the new Commander of the Enterprise said."
With his customary smirk Coulson spoke with a truly relieved tone to his voice, "I am relieved." Greg extended his hand, "Congratulations, Admiral."
William shook his protégé's hand, "Thank you and congratulations to your appointment as the 16th Fleet's Commanding Officer. I'm sure you'll do amazing things."
"Thank you, Sir," Coulson said taking his hand away. He glanced around the Bridge one last time and said his good bye, "It's been an honor serving with you all." He turned toward Teagarden and nodded a final goodbye as he stepped through the starboard exit.
Teagarden tugged on his uniform jacket, "Maintain course and speed. Miss Yavan you have the Bridge. I'll be in my Ready Room."
"Aye Sir."
The Admiral turned on his heel and stepped through the door, ready to start meeting with his Senior Staff starting with his XO.
