Mission:
9. Oubliette
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Current (just prior to sickbay emergency)
Kuzos limped into Sickbay. he had a goose egg bump on his forehead, a cut over his left eye and a limp. He had been in the holodeck running the snowboard program he and Aidan had used earlier in an attempt to get better with steering the snowboard. In his haste he had left the safeties off.
His first three runs down the hill had gone smoothly but on his fourth disaster struck. He was about halfway down the mountain when the board hit something in the course and threw it off course. he attempted to correct and in his attempt he over corrected and the board ended up crashing into a cluster of trees instead of plowing into a nice, soft snow bank.
Entering Sickbay, he looked around and called out almost embarrassed to so, "Hello?"
The golden furred doctor approached from one of the wards, pace increasing when she spotted noticeable injuries. Her tail snakes forward to curl around the officer's waist to support him as she provided assistance to the nearest bed. "What happened," she enquired softly as strong paws easily lifted him the last distance onto said bed. The bed instantly sprang to life with the overhead monitor displaying the Vorta's vitals.
Gentle, padded paws probed the bump on his head before she flipped open a tricorder. "I can heal the gash sir and reduce the swelling but you seem to have suffered a concussion." She paused as she ran the scanning wand further across his body. "Hairline fracture across your tibia and torn ligaments down to your foot. How did this happen?"
Kuzos' violet eyes settled on Icarus as she placed him on the biobed. He listened silently as the young doctor listed his injuries and wincing, he nodded slowly with gratitude as she reported she could treat him. In response to her question on how did this happen, he gave an embarrassed chuckle. "I was in the holodeck, running a snowboarding program hoping to get better at steering it. All was going well until my last run when the board suddenly went off course. In my attempt to correct the course, a cluster of trees sprang up and decided get in my way." He paused in his storytelling before quietly adding "In my haste, I um neglected to engage the safeties and you see the results." He looked up at her and added, "It had been going so well."
She studied him for a moment while running the dermal regenerator over the gash on his forehead. "You neglected to check the safeties? Shouldn't they have been fully operational to begin with when you started the program?" Her tail lashed in disapproval, one ear flicking sideways in surprise. "That is very irresponsible commander, surely as security chief you know better?"
He was silent and properly chastised. The silence grew for several seconds before he spoke. "I turned to safeties off before the last run. I had been doing so well and has you have correctly pointed out I do know better, though.... my appearance here does not reflect that knowledge. I can assure you that my injuries insure i will not make the same mistake again."
"No safeties should never be employed," the young doctor countered, "no matter the programming. I understand the thrill of lowered safeties, trust me I do, but with every setting the danger of fatal injury increases." Her whiskers shifted, as well as the position of her ears and her tail looped lightly in an indication of amusement. "Even a Vorta isn't invulnerable sir. Perhaps not run these programs by yourself?" She proceeded to treating the bump on his head, the soft hum of the regenerator bridging the brief silence between them.
Kuzos laid his head back on the pillow and closed his eyes. He felt bad he was sore all over even in places he never knew he had and he mad at himself because he did know better but wanted to prove to himself he could handle and steer the snowboard and this was the result. His eyes remained closed as he spoke in a low tone. "True words and sage advice doctor. perhaps you would like to participate the next time I run the program." He opened his eyes. "It is only a suggestion an invitation if you will."
"I've never seen snow before," Icarus admitted, "but I do know how to swim, if really necessary. I'm not fond of it though." Her tail coiled further in an amused loop. "But I wouldn't mind observing?"
Kuzos nodded. "Observing isn't taking part but it is better than nothing and you are certainly welcome to observe."
"It's not that I don't want to sit," the young feline answered as she moved to scanning his limbs for signs of injury. "I've never seen snow before and I don't know how I'll be in it. It's frozen water and while I can swim I'm not particularly fond of getting my fur wet." She looked apologetic, her tail drooping a little to echo her feelings. "Looks like you badly sprained your leg... how exactly was this tree responsible for that?"
Kuzos propped himself up on his elbows and stared at her. "How?" He repeated. "Isn't it obvious Doctor? The tree had the audacity to impede my snowboard run and thereby ending it prematurely." He replied with a straight face leaving it to the young doctor to decided if he was joking or not. "As for not getting your fur wet, that is understandable. You could wear a snowsuit to prevent that."
Icarus purred in amusement. "Such a naughty tree," she said as she gently pulled the boot and sock from his injured foot. She watched him closely for any signs of discomfort before proceeding to run the regenerator over the afflicted area. "I could," she agreed as she finished up. "There, good as new, how does it feel?" Her long tail snakes carefully and gently around his wrist. "Please be more careful next time you're going out on your own?"
Kuzos gently flexed his foot. "Sore but a definite improvement over what it was when I came into Sickbay. "I thank you for treating me and your wonderful bedside manner. Both are greatly appreciated. As for being more careful, I shall take it under advisement and the offer stands for you to join the fun either observing or taking part."
"You were injured, of course I treated you," the feline purred, offering a hand to get him back onto his feet. "I'd definitely like to see the snow, but I don't think I'm suited for the activity described."
Kuzos nodded, "As you wish Doctor perhaps you will change your mind once you see the program." he finished and headed for the exit but then stopped and walked back to Icarus, "I don't mean this to sound bold but would you like to have dinner with me one night when your schedule allows it?"
"My schedule will allow for it sir," she answered, her long tail coiled impossibly tight, her ears twitching. "I'll make sure that it does, just let me know when. Barring emergencies of course but then we'll simply reschedule."
Kuzos smiled at her answer. "That is wonderful" He exclaimed happily. "I will be sure to give you ample notice, so you can plan accordingly."
Bridging the distance, Icarus lightly coiled her tail around his wrist. "I shall be looking forward to it," she promised, "id you'll be alright now, I have to return to my duties."
"I will be fine." Kuzos assured her. "Thank you for treating my injuries, the conversation and saying yes." he replied as he moved towards the exit.
