Medical Check after Quantum Barrier Testing

2,153 words; about a 11 minute read

Mission: Gaia - Short Treks
Location: Deck 7, Primary Medical
Timeline: 2439-06-14, 1040 Hours

Deck 8: Holodeck Complex -> Going to Primary Medical on Deck 7:

In the Turbolift, Urvasi leaned against the wall. The Holosuite Testing had taken a lot out of her, as evidenced by her tail fur laying flatter along her tail than usual. She closed her eyes, took in a deep breath, then let it out slowly. She opened her eyes to look over at Dylan, happy he was escorting her to Medical. She smiled to him and asked, "How are you doing, Dylan? Are you okay with... umm... well.. just... I guess I am at a loss for words, too much has happened."

The human shuffled closer: "You don't need to worry about me. I'm more concerned about you right now. You gave me quite a fright back there when you screamed and went unresponsive. I was tempted to bypass the Commander and haul you to sickbay myself."

A tinge of red showed under the very short white fur along Urvasi's muzzle. "Yeah. *sigh* Sorry about that. First time to sense that magnitude of energies that close. But, we got through it, which I am glad for."

Deck 7 Arrival:

The Turbolift doors opened. Urvasi pushed herself away from the wall and then moved into position to walk next to Dylan. She hrmphed out, "Well, not a date, darn it, but at least I am being escorted, even if just to Medical. Thanks."

Dylan shrugged: "I'm just happy to help, we can fix up a time for that date later. Right now, let's get you checked out by the Doc before our dancing rendezvous."

Urvasi yiffered gently as her tail tip moved over to gently stroke along Dylan's left calf. She replied, "A dancing rendezvous it is after we complete our current mission. I am looking forward to it."

It was a short trek to the Primary Medical doors. They opened and Urvasi led the way in to look for a passing nurse or doctor. While the blood on her nostril's had dried, she had not wiped it away or cleaned the tell-tail as she wanted it to be apparent she was there for a very needed checkup. She was hoping it was only burst capillaries within her muzzle olfactory cavity due to the heavy tensing she was doing during the Barrier piercing, but she could not ignore that it might be some capillaries within her brain that had burst as well from the strain she put on her psi senses.

She whispered to Dylan, "I had some burst capillaries when I was young when I used by Telekinetics to slow down my fall to the forest floor in a poorly built tree house. I recovered quickly, nothing really wrong, just slight over extension of my TK. I am hoping the light blood is from burst capillaries in my nose, or maybe my psi area of my brain, from the high strain of the scenario, and nothing worse. I think I shall be fine, but, it is always best to have medical take a look. Some.. background for you, mm'kay?"

"From a race who doesn't have telekinesis that's both impressive and harrowing," he replied softly with a smirk tugging his lips. "I hope you're right and it's nothing serious."

Urvasi's muzzle tinged pink again as she snorted in light humor, "Okay, yah, good point. And, I must be alright for the mission, I must."

"Any mission that has Temporal Investigations involved means everyone needs to be on point." Dylan replied. "The thesis behind every choice is enough to make my head hurt."

Urvasi's gaze softened even as her muzzle tinged a darker red. She whispered, "Very true, we all need to be, thanks for the reminder." She would apologize later for forgetting the L'Tandrey ship creed, 'Always lookout for your shipmate, they are the ones to have your back'. She looked around for the doc or a nurse to get her Muzzle and Head examined.

Rio had returned from the Bridge and was getting an update from her colleagues when Urvasi and Dylan arrived. "Lieutenant Elandorn!" Rio greeted Urvasi. "How did you fare making it through all that overload when we crossed the barrier?" she asked, coming over, medcorder already in her hand. Descending on the patient she spoke to Dylan as she began to scan Urvasi. "I'm Rio Kholin" she offered, looking directly at him. politely waiting for him to introduce himself, but still letting the scanner do it's work at the same time.

"Hello Doctor," Dylan smiled at her greeting realizing up until now he'd not met the ships senior most physician. Her addition to the crew rooster like Urvasl was quite recent and it was likely the two women hadn't heard of the incident with Winter's hallucinogenic mushrooms. The young man tried not to wince at the memory of that afternoon that sorely dented his pride due some rather explosive flying vomit.

"I'm Dylan Blake, it's nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too, Lieutenant Blake" Rio smiled, deducing his rank by his pips. "Are you here as a patient as well, or to support Lt. Elandorn?" she enquired gently.

"I'm good," replied Blake. "I'm just here in a supporting role today."

"You're a generous and considerate friend then." Rio approved with a broad smile.

Urvasi answered Rio after the Doc's interaction with Dylan. "After going through the Holodeck Scenario Barrier 4 times, I think I fared okay. First time hurt immensely, like having a magnesium weld being done right in front of your eyes, and that is when the XO made me promise to come here after we finished, and so I am." She yiffered, but it sounded very tired. She continued, "On the next three piercings, I think I figured out how to somewhat shield myself. So, on the final one piercing, we let the scenario finish and I was able to guide the ship to low planet orbit while being able to see other eddies swirling around and avoid them. So, success... WHee.." On the 'exclaimed WHee', Urvasi winced slightly, her ears folding down against her head. She whispered, "ouchie', then as her ears slowly raised, she said in a quieter voice, "wheee."

Still standing at her side Dylan noticed the changes in her body language and soft whisper. "Maybe you should sit," he offered softly with fresh concern.

Urvasi gave a minor nod as she softly replied, "When Doc Rio is finished with scan, gladly."

"I can use the Bio-Bed to finish the scanning." Rio opened her arm towards a cubicle very close by, thus inviting Urvasi to rest herself in there. Offering Dylan to go in next, Rio followed and set up the Med-Arch over the bio-bed, above the now prone Lieutenant and finishing off the examinations and tests.

Withdrawing the machinery so that Urvasi could sit up again, she began to reveal the findings.

"The scans have revealed that your body and brain have all been highly stressed to the point that some small capillaries have burst inside your muzzle, but these have satisfactorily clotted and closed over again since. There are also two areas in your brain that are showing signs of over-stimulation and extreme fatigue. These area areas that correlate with the regions associated with your far empathic abilities. You're showing signs of muscle tremors, mild but adding to the strain of all the rest of the overload you've been experiencing. I sense you're trying to control these so perhaps they've been present a little longer than some of the rest of your symptoms?" It was almost a rhetorical question because the effort of doing this was also showing on the scans and tests and in evidence physically for all to see. Rio took a long breath after this long report.

"Did you say you went through the barrier four times so far?" she asked. "Only if you did, I imagine this examination will be needed to see if you're able to undertake the real thing shortly? I feel that your injuries, bruising and capillary damage will be insufficient reason for me to say you CAN'T do it - I can only tell you that nobody would blame you if you decided you've done enough. However, I also realise from the little I have come to know of you so far, that will not be something that you will want to consider? Am I right?"

Urvasi did a small yiffer in response to the Doc's questions. "Yes, Doc Rio, you're right. I need to be cleared for the bridge, and yes, if I didn't need to go through it again, I wouldn't. It's... such.. utter pain.. I really didn't enjoy. However, I am the one born with this weird, stupid ability that has very little use, except in rare instances... such as now. So, yeah, it's me, and I will be there for the crew," she glanced at Blake and smiled, then finished with, "every one."

While the two women discussed, Blake politely tried not to listen and questioned why he'd opted to follow them into the cubicle. His responsibility for her welfare ended when Doctor Kholin came forth and frankly he should have made a discrete exit at that point. Now crowded in the small space Dylan thought it impolite to eavesdrop on the medical assessment and attempted to distract himself by polishing his shoes by rubbing them on his trousers legs.

"I can give you some long-acting analgesics to take for the physical pain Urvasi, but I have nothing other than a good meditation technique that will be much inferior to your own preferred internal remedy for the mental pain, I'm sorry. Perhaps the Counselor might be more able to help with that? Do you have an appointment to see her?" Rio asked gently.

Urvasi nodded at the mention of 'analgesics' whispering, "Thank you". Her left eyebrow raised at the mention of 'inferior to hers' but she let it be. She was always willing to learn new techniques, and then the Doc mentioned the Amber. She let out an amused throat noise as she replied, "Not yet, but I will get one. My first meeting with the Counselor for my onboard check-in went very well. She was surprised at how forthright I was about my socio-polito standings and where my dating life was, as in nill. So, I am looking forward to our next meeting, and maybe even reporting a possibility of a boyfriend." She said the last with a small smile.

As Urvasi was speaking, Rio was listening but at the same time preparing a small but sturdy black data-rod with Elandorn's results on it and a digital letter from herself to confirm that whilst it would be somewhat dangerous for Urvasi to go back on the Bridge for the final crossing, nonetheless, as CMO, she herself would endorse Elandorn's choice should she feel the need to undertake that option. Kholin didn't put into words that she knew there wasn't anyone better qualified to do this task and that the rest of the crew - and the crew of the Defiant as well - all relied on Urvasi to see it through if she could. That last part was unsaid but known to all of them but it remained unsaid aloud. All the CMO mentioned to her patient was the part that it would be dangerous of course and that she had written the letter.

"This is the pain-killer hypo - take it when you're expecting the crossing to be coming up in half an hour. It should last you for 6hrs but it's not going to kill all the pain, just the top edge, I expect."

Urvasi gladly received the hypo from Rio's hand as she listened to what he said. As before, she kept her manners very proper as she replied with "Thank you very much," as she put the hypo into a uniform pocket. Then, her tail and ears moved with her head in a nod as she finished with, "Just the Edge, perfect."

After handing it over, Kholin also held out the slim, elegant data-rod, and said quietly, "Take care of yourself as best you can. Good luck."

Urvasi received the Data Rod knowing it was for the CDO on the bridge when she got there so they knew she was ready for piloting the ship. She stood up and curtsied, replying, "I will, Doc Rio, thank you for your care."

She turned to Dylan, smiled, and asked, "Would you mind escorting me to my quarters so I can get in some rest before we arrive at the Quantum Barrier?"

The human nodded and returned her smile: "Sure thing. After you," he signaled for her to take the lead before turning to Kholin before they departed. "Thanks for your help Doctor."

Urvasi led the way out of the Medical center looking forward to a nap before arriving at the planet with the Quantum Barrier.
