In the Hands of the Prophets

Mission: Tosk
Location: U.S.S. Enterprise

"Are you ready to go?" Commodore Loatha Targaryen asked from her seat across from her husband.

Commodore Wilkan Targaryen barely acknowledged his wife, his attention focused on the middle of the three computer terminals that sat atop his desk. Since he had been promoted to Commodore and the Enterprise assigned as the flagship for Project Longshot, Wilkan's time had been spent preparing for the mission and reading up on the other vessels assigned to this mission. In total five vessels, including Enterprise's support ship Galileo, were assigned to the direct supervision of the Enterprise. Three others were assigned but weren't under Enterprise's direction. Copernicus would support DS47, the Tlaggul was the Admiral's transport, and the Defiant would be used by his wife if she needed in the Gamma Quadrant. It was a lot to coordinate.

Loatha continued, "Oh, my Gorn boyfriend's coming by to see me tonight. After the Gallamite leaves."

Wilkan shifted his attention to the other monitor, looking over the details provided on the Enterprise herself. The work on installing the upgrades to the Bridge were almost complete and the crew were using the Battle Bridge for the moment until they were finished. Enterprise had heavy automation, but Starfleet decided to place additional crew aboard the ship to assist in this mission. They were being assigned to cabins and their duty stations now, but it was more complex than it needed to be.

"I think I'm going to go," Loatha said as she started to rise from her chair.

The new Commodore looked up at his wife, "Where are you going? What's wrong?"

"You haven't heard anything I've said for the last five minutes," the station commander said. "I felt like a distraction, but I can't even really say that much."

Wilkan rubbed his temples and pushed back against his chair, "Sorry, you know what it's like when you're getting ready to launch on a new mission. It's even worse when you're leading a group of ships. I need a vacation already."

"Maybe when you get out there you can find us a new vacation spot?" His wife teased.

"A grotto or secluded hideaway?" Wilkan teased back.

The station commander added, "With a Jem'Hadar fleet hanging above us."

That shut the Enterprise's Captain down faster than anything. He rose from his chair and walked over toward the window, looking out at the collection of ships there. "That's my biggest fear during this mission. Everyone going with me didn't see the War, so this is something fresh and new for them. Hell, one of the oldest Captains going with me didn't even see Frontier Day for Heaven's sake. They don't know what they're in for."

"Or maybe you don't know what you're in for?" The other Commodore countered. "Like you said the War was a long time ago. Maybe, just maybe, the Dominion's changed and you've stayed the same."

"The Dominion doesn't change," Wilkan replied with a bit of anger in his voice. "They're a biblical plague upon the galaxy, like locusts that destroy everything they touch. This isn't going to end well," he laughed, "I feel like Jeremiah warning Judah."

Loatha countered, "That could go either way."

Taken aback, he turned toward his wife, "Excuse me?"

"Well, the people of Judah and their leaders ignored Jeremiah's warning, accusing him of contradicting God's Word and ultimately killing him. Their nation was later taken and Jerusalem destroyed, proving Jeremiah right. Maybe you're looking at it the wrong way; maybe you're Judah, misinterpreting the warning, and at the risk of a devastating fall," Loatha proposed.

"Never know," Wilkan relented as he looked out at the ships again. "Wrong or right, this could be a mission for the history books."

Loatha nodded, "Indeed it is. I have to get back to work. While you're the one doing the exploring, I'm the one that's got to do the prep for the signing ceremony. Have fun and love you!"

"Love you too," Wilkan answered as the holo transmission of his wife faded away.

Crossing his arms and looking at the collection of ships outside, Wilkan pondered what his wife had suggested. Could he be Judah in his example? Ignoring the potential for personal beliefs? Or was he the prophet, trying to get people to listen in futility?

He supposed that they'd find out soon.
