Tactical Officer's Log, Stardate 109185.5:

It has been six months since we were assigned by Starfleet to transition Deep Space 12 into an emergency control center for the Federation and I don't think we've had a second of down time since arriving. The Maelstrom is a region entirely unlike anything that we have ever encountered before. Anomalies are everywhere, radiation is three times the normal levels, and half of the people we've come across have wanted to kill us. It's been fun so far.

Despite the late hour, the Admiral has ordered us to meet to discuss plans should the Interstellar Coalition find us. This has been one of at least a hundred meetings on the subject, but he is still concerned we are unprepared for what may come.

The Tactical Cartography Lab aboard Deep Space 12 was an expansive mapping center designed to allow tactical officers with detailed information regarding the nearby sectors and threats that may be present. With the Maelstrom being such an alien realm to all they knew and had experienced thus far there were lots of dangers threatening them. Tactical Cartography would be instrumental in discovering them - like the Klingon Bird of Prey Squadron that was on patrol and the old Romulan Warbird that was exploring near Alioth. That was just what the short-range scanners found.

The werewolf like alien yawned, "We've been at this for hours. Anyone have anything else?"

T'Lisha was sitting listening and spoke up, "How about I take my squadron out and do some scouting around? Never know what we will drop in on," she said looking at tired faces.

"Sounds good to me," the Rorworr Officer answered as he brushed aside a lock of fur that had become askew on his forehead. "With the Federation setting this place up as the backup for Headquarters we need all the defensive options we can get."
