Ambassador of the United Planets of Tellar, the honorable Ambassador Tovaa Cofrar, stared at Ambassador Ras th'Zaanaq, "What do you mean the President, Ambassador Grayson, and Starfleet One are missing, Ambassador?"
“We lost contact with the USS Spock about 6 hours ago. All attempts to contact them have failed. Starfleet have made this their highest priority and are sending a ship to investigate.” The Andorian replied coolly. He really wished he had been more forceful in making the president stay on earth rather that head off to these talks.
The Tellarite sighed, "So, the President is out of communication during what is surely becoming one of the largest public relations nightmares within the history of the Federation is what you're telling me? Terrific," she said with a loud snort of derision. "Have they picked up any trace of the President or his vessel's transponder? What about any debris?" She hated saying the last part.
“I haven’t heard anything from Starfleet yet. If it takes any longer I’ll be giving Starfleet a call for an update. I’m not sure how long we can keep this under wraps before the Federation News Service gets wind of what’s going on.” The Andorian Secretary replied, frustration evident in his voice.
A hologram shimmered into place in the form of a very young Vulcan looking female. She had been asked to step in, on behalf of the Vulcan colony that was still part of the Federation. "I am T'Leya," she stated calmly, "I was summoned."
Tovaa looked at their new arrival. "Ambassador," she greeted knowing that the Andorian Ambassador had been left in charge. She would follow his lead with the introductions and let him fill in the Vulcan Representative.
"Thank you coming back to me so quickly, Ambassador T’Leya.” Ras said looking at the holographic representation in his office. “May I introduce Ambassador Tovaa Cofrar of Tellar.” He added using his hand to gesture towards the short Tellarite.
The Tellarite Ambassador nodded with an annoyed grunt, "Charmed. Is this your first visit, Ambassador? If so you picked a good time with the President being missing and all."
Ras couldn’t help but let out a sigh. He knew his Tellerite counterpart didn’t mean to let the cat out of the bag as grandiose but he would have liked to have been the one to let T’Leya himself. However, he chose to keep quiet and see what the Vulcan would say.
The Vulcan woman arched an eyebrow at the Tellarite. "Visit to where? I am not physically here ambassador. I am still on New Vulcan."
The Tellarite Ambassador belly laughed, "I like you already." She sat a datapad down, "We need to come up with a contingency plan with the President still out of communication and Starfleet not knowing what happened to his transport. We need guidance especially with the Delegation of 20 threatening secession."
“I won’t allow ‘the 20’ to take centre stage over the President’s disappearance.” Ras explained coolly. “First, we need communication from Starfleet as to how their investigation is going. This is a top priority so I expect to hear from them sooner rather than later. Then we’ll need to make a press statement, we won’t be able to keep a lid on this information for long, I’d rather the information being fed to the press was done in a controlled manner or chaos will no doubt ensue.”
Tovaa nodded, "In the mean time I have an old friend with whom I will meet to discuss the situation involving the 20. Perhaps, just perhaps, we can get ahead of them too in the process."
“What’s your plan, Ambassador?” Ras asked, interested in what his Tellerite colleague had in mind.
"One thing is unclear to me," the Vulcan woman interrupted, "since when has the president been reported missing? And do we have any suspects?"
“My apologies, Ambassador. I need to fill you in on what has happened.” Ras said after shifting his sitting position slightly to face the Vulcan Ambassador. “Roughly six hours ago, we lost contact with the USS Spock which was carrying President Gruzy from diplomatic talks with the Dominion. I was being updated on what was happening with the talks when suddenly the comm went dead. I tried numerous times to reconnect with the Spock before contacting Starfleet Command. They to had lost contact with them and were sending ships into the area to investigate. We are still waiting to hear back from Starfleet.”
Tovaa added, "Among the passengers was also the Starfleet CinC and the United Earth Ambassador."
“Of course.” Ras added.
"And you were worried you'd be bored when the President left you in charge."
“It’s true, however, I really wasn’t expecting this aggravation. Do you think the president has taken a secret holiday?” He asked in jest.
"Just a thought," T'Leya interrupted, "what if he is not missing but is running on radio silence?"
Ras shook his head in disagreement. “I was in a holo-conference call with the President and Mr Grayson when the comm went dead. Something has happened to them.”
Tovaa considered the possibility herself, but had reviewed the flight plan that had been forwarded to them. "They traveled through Federation held space only, which is part of why this is all so strange. There's been no evidence of a stellar phenomenon either."
“Agreed, so there must be a third party involved.” Ras replied before pausing for a moment to think. “The only plausible idea is that one of ’the 20’ have something to do with this however without evidence it is just speculation. Hopefully, Starfleet will come up with some answers.”
"With luck," the Tellarite answered. She sighed, "I better go get in touch with our contact." She looked at the Andorian then the Vulcan, "Unless there is anything else that needs discussed?"
The Andorian shook his head, “I don’t think so, I just wanted to bring the both of you up to speed on what’s happening with the president. Please keep this to yourselves, once I’ve heard back from Starfleet I’ll contact you both again with what’s happening and if we need to make an official announcement.”
With that the Vulcan Ambassador, abruptly, disappeared from across from them. Tovaa laughed, "Guess that means we're done?"
“I believe we are. I’ll contact Starfleet to find out what’s going on. Once we know we can move forward with making an announcement.” Ras said with a nod.
Cofrar nodded, "Guess we're adjourned."
