Getting help for the doctor

Posted on Sat Jan 21st, 2023 @ 2:45pm by Lieutenant Commander Cyrus Marner & Lieutenant T’Lara

527 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Short Treks
Location: Medical

Marner was in the middle of going through the medical supply checklist, making certain he had sorted it out properly. Sure he'd done that before but he felt that there was something he was missing. Cyrus also wondered if he were going to be getting a bit more help. This way maybe he'd be able to get a break like the doctor, (Him) had recommended for those on the ship. He was notorious not following his own advice at times.

"Oh there you are, I knew I had put you in the wrong spot." Swapping out the medicine. He had put it in the wrong area. That would have been a disaster if he'd not had it where it belonged.

T’Lara had arrived in the main sickbay looking for her boss. The bio beds seemed quiet but there were a few people moving around the department. She had had to ask to have Marner pointed out to her. He appeared to be a little flustered and was talking to himself. T’Lara smiled inside. He looked…interesting she thought to herself as she walked over to him.

“Doctor Marner, Lieutenant T’Lara your new ACMO and Chief of Surgery reporting in sir.” She said standing to attention.

Cyrus had a triumphant smile on his face, at finding the missing medicine and had not heard someone come up behind him. He quickly turned around though, when he heard a voice and her word barely filtering through his surprise.

"I have an Assistant Chief Medical officer now?" Cyrus stared at the woman before him. "I'm not dreaming am I? Or are my eyes and ears deceiving me?" He looked once more then gave a nod. "I am not dreaming nor hallucinating, am I."

T’Lara smiled, “No sir you are not hallucinating, nor are you dreaming. I am really here and glad to be so, and you also now have a Surgery Chief.” The Vulcan said expressing herself with the usual eyebrow raise.

"And Chief of Surgery, marvelous, marvelous indeed. I am quite happy to have someone to work that as well. Mind you though I will be a part of surgery as well. A team up though I am liking that very much." The information still filtering down into his mind. He'll catch up in a moment or two. Click, it finally fell into place. "Well then, shall we get to your office, and get you settled in?"

“That would be….satisfactory Doctor Marner, or do you prefer Lieutenant? I can see that I am much needed for your sanity!”

Cyrus chuckled at the last part of Tylara's remark. "Yes, indeed you are needed for my sanity. I could compare you to a lighthouse with its light shining forth through a storm, helping to guide the way of a ship almost lost at sea." then he added,"You could call me Doctor or Lieutenant, though I think I would prefer being called doctor."

A few moments of silence and then Cyrus gave a laugh, "Well, its time to get to work, I will see you later." and Cyrus made his way to another part of sick bay.
