Mission:
Cheese
Location: Sickbay Medical Lab, Starfleet One
Timeline: 2430-08-30, 10:00
Lieutenant Commander Sawbones stood at the diagnostic table within the Medical Laboratory in the Sickbay Complex. Recently, while surveying planet LV-9247, they had collected several samples from the native foliage and soil for investigation. They had detected low level metaphasic radiation emanations from the samples and it was a pretty impressive sight for him. They weren't at the level of the Ba'ku world, but the regenerative properties were congruent to that of Nepenthe in the Maelstrom Sector.
When he deactivated the previous night he was eager to begin the next phase of his research. Nonetheless, this morning had brought an unexpected complication. The scan cycles were not reproducing the same results as before. If anything things were degrading far too fast for his liking. Tapping his communicator he asked for assistance from the Science Division, calling for Commander Snow to join him.
Snow was still in the Science labs when she was called to the Medical labs. "On my way." She said reverting back to her icy tone. It didn't take her long to get down to the lab. As she walked in, she saw the EMH. "Is there something you need?"
The replica of Leonard McCoy looked up from the workstation, "This infernal machine isn't working right." He typed quickly on the panel, "These results keep coming back wrong."
"Lets see what research you have done so far." Snow stated as she walked up to the station that the EMH was at. It didn't take her long to review the research. Then she turned to the equipment and ran another scan, with a few additional types added. "Hmmm." She hummed. "It would seem that the biological components of the scans have begun to decay at an accelerated rate. It seems that they have grown dependent on the metaphasic radiation. Now the question it how did this metaphasic radiation arrive on this planet, outside the Briar Patch?" She said tapping her lips with her fingers.
"That's a good question," the LMH answered. "Part of my research study was to answer exactly that question. I had picked up these samples during our research mission on LV-9247 and started an analysis into it. Prior to the degradation the metaphasics were congruent to what we found on Nepenthe in the Maelstrom Sector." He motioned toward the research station, "then this happened and we now have, essentially, dirt."
"Same as on another world? Hmmm." Snow thought and hummed to herself. "Even worlds with similar environments and galactic building blocks have detectable changes in the environment. So this tells me that one of these worlds was set up as a sort of trap. Current or some time in the past, but this also means something is off."
"A Trap?" Sawbones asked surprised. "What do you mean?" The replica of Leonard McCoy was genuinely concerned. "You don't think that the Preservers are messing with us again do you?" A series of beeps and a tune started to play from the console, "Interesting, so now it is detecting my ambient radiation again."
"Now this is a mystery I can sink teeth in." Snow said with an almost evil smirk on her face. "We will discover the answer."
The hologram nodded and smiled his boyish grin, "That's what I wanted to hear. Let's get to work!"
