470 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Exodus
Location: Lady Luck
Timeline: 2430-01-10, 15:30

"The anomaly remains unchanged," the holographic flight controller said from the Helm workstation at the front of the Bridge of the Lady Luck. A replica of Chomei perfectly, the hologram pecked at the 3-D display that hovered above her console. "This is still madness."

The real Chomei smirked, "And why is that, ENH?" She looked at her own floating displays and maneuvered the holographic readouts around as she tried to come up with a stratagem for herself.

"Pulling that hulk behind us has our vessel strained to the limit. We're a highly maneuverable ship without it - maybe even more than that Klingon ship we think is out there. If we cut it loose we could still have a chance," she shook her head and sighed, "With it... BOOM!"

"Not if I have anything to say about it," the ETH said from next to the Helm. She pulled up details from their database, "Near as I can gather, based upon the Galactic Memory Bank, the most likely ship behind us is a Klingon QulDun Bird of Prey. They have multiple disruptor cannons that we'd be going up against. I agree, if we have the Federation ship attached to us then we will never survive. I have an alternative theory."

Chomei sighed, "And that is?"

"We take their diplomatic transponder and run," she answered.

"What the Hell for?" She yelled in response at the hologram.

The ETH put a hologram of nearby space in front of them, "If they want a diversion we can give them one. The nearest Federation ship is only a few lightyears from here. Too far for us to hail them in real time, but still close enough we can Warp to them in a little bit of time. If we take the diplomatic transponder, cut the Spock loose, and go to maximum warp we could get the attention of the Starfleet ships and bring them back here to help before the Klingons have a chance to respond."

"How do we stop them from picking up the lifesigns of the Spock crew?" The Hospitality Hologram asked walking over from a side mounted workstation.

The Engineering hologram had that answer, "I can rig up a quick burst from our engines. The particles could obscure their sensors, but would only look like a malfunction of our engines. The Spock would look dead and they'd probably think it was just because of an engine imbalance from our tow."

Chomei sighed, "I'd probably get thrown in jail for this and you'll all be decompiled."

"Or we save the Federation President and be hailed as heroes," the Tactical Officer countered.

The skipper of the Lady Luck stared at the holograms and the floating replica of the nearby environment. She couldn't help but sigh again as she made her decision, "Let's do it."
