Patton and Zoey had just gotten their food and looked around for somewhere to sit. There was only one table with any seats available, the problem was Jasmine and Ryan were sitting there.
Seeing her didn’t bother him in the least, he had forgotten all about her once he had gotten to know Zoey and felt that spark between them. She was all he thought about these days.
“What do you want to do,” Patton asked Zoey. He didn’t want her to be uncomfortable and was willing to do what he needed to.
"We can find another place to sit down." Zoey said, with a big grin on her face. She did not want to be apart of any drama. Let Jasmine have the seat. To her, it was not a big deal.
“Okay,” Patton nodded. “There is a couple spots at the next table or we can sit with security over in the corner.”
Zoey grabbed his hand, as they walked by Jasmine and Ryan. In a small way, she letting Jasmine know, you passed up on him, now he is all hers. "I prefer to sit at the next table, I hate eating with security." Zoey pointed out to him.
“Anything for you,” Patton said as he sat down.” He smiled at Zoey. “I love your confidence in yourself.”
"We all should have confidence, you have it too you know. Just because Jasmine was to stuck up to see it, does not mean others where not." Zoey said, as she was referring to herself.
“I do,” Patton nodded. “It doesn’t bother me in the least that they are at the next table, I hope they are happy together.” He smiled then. “Not that they could be as happy as we are.”
"That's the right spirit." Zoey said, trying not to let her jealously show. She had her man, so who cared, what they were upto. It was a little weird that her man use to obssess over her, she could not see the appeal.
“I don’t know if I even asked you before,” Patton confesses. “Where did you grow up?” They hadn’t spent a lot of time just talking about their lives.
"No you have not asked, but I assumed you would, when you where ready to get serious with me." Zoey said, with a grin on her face.
“I want to know everything about you,” Patton smiled, reaching out to take her hand. “Where did you live as a child?”
"Not sure what you would like to know, I am from Canada originally. My family grew up around the Buddha culture, being in starfleet has allowed me to see that Buddha may not apply to the universe. Or maybe he does, not sure if I am being honest. Raised by both parents. Does that help?" Zoey asked, a little worried what he would think about her Buddha parents.
“Buddha is an interesting and deep culture,” Patton murmured. He didn’t have a real feeling one way or another. “I spent most of my early years in Ireland until My mom and her husband died in an accident “ He thought back for a moment. “Then my Dad took us in and we lived on the starship he served on.”
Zoey was very curious, so she decided to ask. "You did not call your step father, by his title. Why is that?" She wondered what the story was. Why did he call his Mother's new husband, that husband instead of step father?
“He wasn’t any kind of father to us,”’Patton explained. “Step or otherwise. He was a mean or you drunk who liked to use us punching bags. I was sad that my mom passed away but I didn’t shed a tear over him.”
"Why did your mother marry him?" Zoey asked, feeling sad that Paddy had to put up with an alcoholic.
“He was all nice and sweet before they married,” Patton explained. “He would take us kids to a movie or for ice cream. But not long after they married his true colors came out. He was a mad person and he needed a family to hide behind so he wouldn’t get caught doing whatever illegal stuff he was into.”
"Sorry to hear that, did things improve when you lift with your father?" Zoey asked, hoping that they did.
“Yes,” Patton smiled and a grin crossed his face. “Dad taught us to work hard be honest and to be careful we can sleep well with the decisions we make each day.”
"Glad he was there for you." Zoey said, as she reached in to give him a big hug. The scene starts to fade away.
