It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Walter Koenig, best known to generations of Star Trek fans as Pavel Chekov, at the age of 90.

Joining Star Trek: The Original Series in its second season in 1967, Walter brought humor, warmth and youthful enthusiasm to the bridge of the USS Enterprise. He would go on to reprise the role across the original cast's six feature films, becoming an enduring part of Star Trek history.

Beyond Star Trek, Walter enjoyed a distinguished career as an actor, writer and performer, including his memorable portrayal of Alfred Bester in Babylon 5.

For nearly six decades, Chekov has been part of a universe that has inspired generations to imagine a better future. At a time when the Cold War divided the world, the presence of a Russian officer serving alongside an international crew was itself a powerful expression of Gene Roddenberry's vision of humanity's future.

As a community built around our shared love of Star Trek, we recognize the enormous contribution Walter made to the franchise and the wider science fiction community.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, former colleagues and the countless fans whose lives he touched.

Rest in peace, Walter. Thank you for helping us boldly go.

Live Long and Prosper.
