Summary

The Main Bridge is the command center of Starfleet One.

Additional Information

Location Main Bridge
Description The Main Bridge of Starfleet One was designed with fleet command at its heart and that purpose is strongly reflected in the bridge design. The primary focus of the design puts efficiency as a priority, providing the commanding officer with visual access to all major stations and the viewscreen when seated in the command chair inb the center of the room. This position was equidistant from all the control consoles that operated specific areas of the ship, allowing the Captain to be immediately updated on the condition of the vessel or its crew during missions, and allowing orders to be issued with a minimum of effort. The armrests of the captain's chair feature miniaturized status displays, allowing the captain to use these controls to override the basic operation of Starfleet One. Behind and flanking the captain's chair were three forward-facing, mission configurable workstations supplemented by free-standing data screens.

Located in front of the Captain's Chair, the Flight Control and Operations workstations are on a small level below the Captain's Chair and also have an unobstructed view of the viewscreen. Located to port, the officer manning the Flight Control workstation is responsible for the piloting and navigation of the starship. During Impulse travel, the Helmsman monitors relativistic effects as well the inertial damping system status. When traveling at Warp, the Helmsman will monitor the subspace field geometry and long-range sensor data to make course corrections. At starboard, the Operations Manager coordinates shipboard activities so that mission goals are not jeopardized and resources are adequately shared. The Ops panel presents its user with a continually updated list of current major shipboard activities, allowing Ops to set priorities and allocate resources among current operations. This was especially critical in cases where two or more requests required the use of the same equipment, entailed mutually exclusive mission profiles, or involved some unusual safety or tactical considerations. Ops is also responsible for communications and some sensor analysis functions.

Sunken down three steps were three large workstations located along the forward, port, and starboard rim of the Bridge center. The forward workstation housed consoles for the Science division and were used to monitor scientific activity aboard the ship. The port consoles were used by the Strategic Operations Officer and Tactical Officer. The workstations were divided by function, presenting these users with information from the intrusion detection systems while the other gave access to the defensive systems, including the shields and weapon systems. The starboard terminals were used by the Chief Engineer and the Executive Officer. The Engineering console duplicated the status displays from main engineering and allowed the Chief Engineer to oversee Engineering tasks from the Bridge. The Executive Officer's station provides access to sensor data, inter-ship communications, and information regarding shipboard operations.

The forward bulkhead of the bridge was dominated by the Main Viewscreen. The viewscreen utilized aboard Starfleet One is holographic in origin and is used to display images of the area immediately around the starship, able to provide views from all directions as well as call up data from the library computer. It was also essential in ship-to-ship communication, allowing face-to-face conference if so desired, utilizing subspace and other communications systems. The viewscreen also features touch-sensitive controls at the bottom of the screen.

All other stations were mounted against the wall, running around the entire length of the room. Directly aft of the captain's chair was the master systems display, with mission configurable stations to starboard and port. To the captain's left and right, beyond these stations, were doors that may have provided access to the turbolift system. Further forward still, on either side of the main view screen, were four additional stations, which also faced away from the center of the bridge. Of these workstations, the starboard workstations are typically used by operations division crew and science division personnel to port.
