Physical Description Sora is an average-height, average-build woman with shoulder-length blonde hair and grey eyes, usually seen wearing thick-rimmed black eyeglasses that tint based on the surrounding light, to help with her Terran sensitivity to light. She has a tattoo of a black raven on her left forearm. When off-duty, she prefers to dress elegantly, in the style of an early-21st century businesswoman.

Personality

Personality Overview Sora is a very inquisitive person, always searching for the next topic to research. She has become an amateur expert in the history of the Terran Empire, and, following her cross-over and assignment to DTI, began studying the mechanics of cross-dimensional travel. She is also an avid reader and amateur poet, and has been playing the double bass, electric bass guitar, and piano since her childhood. She is also an excellent markswoman, as well as being skilled in hand-to-hand combat, especially fencing with the rapier, and enjoys archery in her free time. Like her sister, she has taken to wearing slightly tinted eyeglasses to counteract the sensitivity to light affecting all Terrans. She has a slightly dark, sarcastic sense of humour, and is rather introverted, a consequence of her Terran upbringing. Although Terrans are known for their sexual openness, Sora prefers lasting relationships, although she has so far failed to achieve this.

History

Personal History Sora hails from Nygard, a small Terran colony settled by Scandinavians, who reverted to the old viking religion and lifestyle. When she was 5, the shuttle her family was travelling on was boarded by slavers. In the fight, her brother and parents were killed; her sister Freya was badly injured. The sisters returned to Nygard and were raised by their grandfather Eilif.

At the age of 18, Sora followed in her sister’s path and attended the Terran Starfleet Academy, qualifying as an Operations officer with a secondary qualification in tactical operations. She completed her cadet cruise on I.S.S. Voyager (NCC-74656-A), scouting the edge of the Delta Quadrant for the Empire, before being assigned as an operations officer on I.S.S. Challenger (NCC-71099), where she served for two years.

When a mutiny erupted in her second year on Challenger, Sora sided with the ship’s captain and assisted in the defeat of the borders, killing the chief operations officer in the process; as per Terran procedure, she was thus assigned his position and the rank of Lieutenant. Shortly afterwards, she transferred to I.S.S. Asha, serving as First Officer with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

In 2407, Asha was caught in an ion storm and destroyed; while transporting to a support vessel to evacuate, Sora slipped into the Prime Universe due to a transporter malfunction. Finding herself slipped forward in time to 2437 by the incident, Sora was debriefed and then officially defected to the United Federation of Planets, having never agreed with the Terran Empire’s fascistic tendencies. She reverted to the rank of Lieutenant, and adopted the surname Bernadotte in honour of one of her ancestors. She also reconnected with her sister Freya, who had also crossed over and become an officer in Temporal Investigations before joining a joint Federation-Terran task force tasked with investigating the events surrounding the destruction of the Romulan homeworld, as it had shown effects across multiple timelines and foul play had been suspected; during that operation, Freya defected from the task force to take command of the Romulan privateer vessel Ourainavassa in 2387 and from that point onward did not travel further in time; by the time Sora crossed over, her sister had retired to the German countryside of Earth.

Sora once again followed in her sister’s footsteps, and joined the Department of Temporal Investigations, serving as a Temporal Operations Officer on U.S.S. Nostradamus. Following the conclusion of U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701-H)’s mission to the planet Gaia, Sora Bernadotte transferred to that vessel to take the vacant position of Chief Operations Officer, with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
