Meeting the New Boss

1,044 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Short Treks
Location: New Vulcan
Timeline: 2430-09-08, 11:00

In the wink of an eye the away team from Starfleet One had been transported from their ship to the central courtyard of the expansive colony world. Willian Targaryen could not help but be impressed by the intricate surroundings that they found themselves in. While the colony did not look at all that dissimilar since when he was last her for the colony’s founding, he was no less impressed by what he saw.

Though his eyes paused when he came across the podium in which Commander Karrak of the Gorn Confederacy lost his life. If it were not for Karrak and his actions none of them would still be here today and New Vulcan would have died off before it had ever begun. Without him then none of this would have ever been possible. He only hoped that he found in death the peace that he never experienced in life.

Similarly Commander Hawkins looked around the podium sombrely recalling the scene with Karrak and how close they'd been to death. A chill rippled down his spine at the memory.

Turning toward the Sarek Administrative Center, the Admiral was eager to meet with the Colonial Governor for New Vulcan. While they had had preliminary communications and discussions, the truth was that he had not spoken with her in person despite yet. He was excited to have the opportunity to rectify the oversight this time and meet with the Governor. He only hoped that they were able to get passed what Greg had done to build a stronger future.

"Rewarding the see the Colony beginning to blossom since we we're last year," Hawkins remarked softly toward Targaryen as they drew closer to the Admin Centre.

"I definitely agree with that, Commander," the Admiral answered as he saw the diaspora of races walking around the grounds of the colony. "Even though the planet was established as a Vulcan Colony, they have opened their doors to races from throughout the galaxy. I have been especially surprised by the large number of Romulans that have immigrated here."

Zoey minded her cues, and was focusing on providing tactical support. She was there to assist the away team. She grinned, as she listened in. She was a bit taken with everything that had transpired, and she was trying to process it all in still.

Hawkins nodded as a group passed them by: "Perhaps the announcement from Ni'Var has had wider impact than we first thought."

It was an interesting thought, but anything truly was possible. Ni'Var had petitioned for dual membership in both the Federation and the Romulan Free State, but the Council had made no decisions yet regarding how to proceed. The President had had dozens of meetings and temporarily designated the Phoenix to serve as Starfleet One to escort him from meeting to meeting. Complicating matters were challenges from the frontier worlds along the Romulan border, many of which were demanding resources to be given to them to prepare for a war that may never come. The populace was stirring and many questioned whether the Federation was strong enough to survive this.

New Vulcan was a source of some of the strife. When Vulcan left the Federation it was agreed that New Vulcan would assume their position within the Federation Council. Immediately a frontier world was in the core leadership of the Council, a role that many along the frontier questioned and challenged. Dozens of worlds demanded a greater say in the dealings of the Federation and many more critiqued their challenges of equality. It was at risk of going to hell.

As they entered the Administrative Center he only hoped that this wasn't the beginning of the end.

Zoey did a quick survey of the area, mainly with her eyes. She did not want to come across as aggressive. She was ready to give the Admiral any tactical data he needed, or ship deployments. Or her life, if needed. She hoped not the ladder. She rather enjoyed her life.

Seeing the Receptionist sitting nearby, the Admiral stepped over to the curved workstation and looked a the young Rigelian sitting at the console. He put on his best diplomatic smile, "Admiral Willian Targaryen and party to see Governor Singh-Barnes."

The Rigelian typed on the panel and a holographic interface appeared above the workstation, the text distinctively Vulcan in origin. "I will alert the Governor that you have arrived. Please have a seat and someone will be here to escort you to her office."

"Thank you," Willian answered. As he walked toward the seats he had a thought about the medical situation on the planet. Tapping his communicator, "Targaryen to Doctor Marner."

"Marner here, what can I do for you?" Cyrus having just gotten done entering another experimental detail with plants, into his journal.

"Can you join me on the surface please? I want to have you present during the meeting with the Governor," he informed.

"I will be there shortly, Sir." Marner answered, then headed to get his medical kit and tricorder. He wanted to be prepared.

Willian, on remote, nodded, "Thanks Doc." He sat down in one of the seats in the lobby and looked around, "What do you think of our latest colony?"

"It's impressive," Hawkins acknowledged looking around the reception. "Busier than I expected."

Marner beamed down and looked about, spying Willian. "Nice place here." carrying his black medical bag.

"That it certainly is," Hawkins nodded at Marner joined them.

"It has come a long way since the last time I was here," the Admiral noted. "Starfleet One had been here for the initial christening of the colony, and for the fallout of that event." His mind's eye wandered to Commander Karrak and watching the Gorn leader sacrifice his own life to save theirs. His friend had brought change to the galaxy even if he never meant to.

"Thank you for joining us, Doctor," he added as he looked for the Governor. He hoped that she was along soon."

It took only a few more moments for the Receptionist to come gather them and take them to meet with the Governor. For the Admiral this was stranger than any other meeting in the final frontier, but the unknown was why they were all out here.
