676 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: Atlantis
Location: Main Bridge, Starfleet One
Timeline: 2429-12-02, 13:30

"Approaching destination," Galatea announced.

"Bring us to half impulse," Admiral Teagarden looked up from the console built in to the armrest of his chair.

Gently T'Lisha brought the ship down from her coxial whirlwind speed to 1/4 impulse. "Helm answers 1/4 impluse Admiral", she said calmly

The Admiral watched the viewscreen as they transited back to normal space in a vastly empty field of darkness. Pinpricks of light showed the stars of the galaxy as they reformed around them. "Number One follow up with Doctor Porter to ensure that there were no injuries during our travels. Check with Chief Lorina to make sure that we're in optimal condition."

"Aye sir." Bishop answered even as he was checking with first Dr. Porter. "Dr. Porter, the Admiral would like to know if we made our trip without any injuries?"

"Nothing major to report," The CMO replied, "only a couple minor abrasions due to falls from crewman who weren't prepared for the ride. They are already being taken care of."

Finishing with Porter, Bishop called Lorina, "Chief, what kind of condition are we in after our little jaunt?"

"The Chief isn't available," Lieutenant Barbax answered. "But the ship and core are at 100%."

Standing, William walked toward the viewscreen as a small vessel appeared before them. It looked like it was low on power, drifting, lifeless, "Yellow alert. Begin scans of the craft looking for lifesigns and answers to what happened."

"Admiral sensors indicating structural damage to the small craft, its drifting. Recommend we bring it aboard." Jasmine suggested, curious to learn more about the space craft. It was the Admiral's call, and she hoped he would allow it.

"Performing deep scan." Green went into her analytic mode. "Alien ship is similar in design to the 20th Century space shuttle of the 1980-90's, old type Earth. Aluminum, titanium alloy. Seats approximately six to eight. Scientific equipment onboard, unknown type."

"Commander Hawkins, review the scans alongside Commander Green. Try to figure out where they came from," he ordered as he waited for more information.

"Aye sir," Hawkins replied intrigued by the small damaged craft. Early scans revealed it was predominantly made from aluminium and titanium alloy.

William watched carefully as they approached the other vehicle, hoping that this wasn't indicative of something more. He was considering up a11 option of bringing the ship aboard carefully. It looked like an old Earth Shuttle Orbiter, but that was meaningless data. Except the transmission was similar to Federation frequency. They were based on Earth technology.

"I'm a little concerned bringing it aboard," William answered the earlier recommendation. "Commander Bishop prepare an away team, no more than four people."

"Yes sir." Bishop rose from his seat and looked around. "Haynes, Green. Grab your stuff, your with me." He did the Admiral one better and limited the team to three. Heading toward the lift, he glanced toward Hawkins and shot his friend a look letting him know he would watch out for Carla.

"Aye sir." Jasmine said, as she secured her station, and motioned for a relief officer, to take her station. She walked over to Nathan. She was curious to learn, what they would find on this small craft.

"Yes sir." Carla handed her station off to a junior officer, gave Nathan a quick look, then moved out.

The Admiral turned toward Commander Hawkins, "I am going to go meet with the Ambassadors. You have the Bridge."

"Yes sir," the Commander acknowledged and crossed the bridge towards the hot seat. Some would find it intimidating for Nathan he'd rather sit there than deal with the Ambassadors., though this was the first time Teagarden had entrusted the ship to him.

The Admiral nodded and left for the Turbolift, giving a reassuring nod to Commander Hawkins as he did so.

Bishop gave a final look at Hawkins before exiting the bridge. He giving him a nod as he softly said. "Just like old times Nathan."

The Commander smirked at the quibble. "Just come back in one piece this time."

Admiral Teagarden grinned as the turbolift started its descent.
